In 2013, anthropologist David Graeber began using the term bullshit jobs to refer to jobs that are meaningless1 . Jobs whose people who perform them believe that they should not exist because they do not contribute anything to the world, they are not necessary. They are empty tasks that often end up emptying the people who perform them of meaning as they end up asking themselves why they spend so much of their lives performing an absurd task.
In addition to bullshit jobs, Graeber points to the existence of other jobs that he calls simply shit jobs. These, unlike the first ones, are those that correspond to some precariousness in the work environment or pay. There are shit jobs, which although necessary, are not well paid and the people who perform them are mistreated in some way (violation of labor rights). 1 Cf. Graber David, On the Phenomenon of Bullshit Jobs: A Work Rant, Strike! Magazine, https://www.strike.coop/ bullshit-jobs/ types of jobs end up draining workers in different ways. Some make them miserable through meaninglessness. Others take away their dignity through mistreatment.
